Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is known for its vibrant street markets and delicious street food. However, for those who prefer a more air-conditioned shopping experience, Bangkok is also home to some of the best malls in Southeast Asia. These malls offer a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options, making them great destinations for visitors and locals alike. In this post, we will take a look at some of the best malls in Bangkok, highlighting their unique features and what makes them worth visiting. Whether you’re looking for luxury brands, local boutiques, or a place to relax and have fun, Bangkok’s malls have something for everyone.
SIAM PARAGON
Siam Paragon is one of Bangkok’s most popular and luxurious malls. It is home to a wide variety of high-end brands, including Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. The mall also boasts a wide variety of restaurants, from fine dining to casual eateries, as well as a cinema with an IMAX theater. One of the best things about Siam Paragon is its central location. It is situated in the heart of Bangkok, making it easily accessible by public transport from BTS Siam Station. Visitors can also take advantage of the mall’s valet parking service. Siam Paragon also features South East Asia’s largest aquarium called ‘Sea Life’. You can discover an amazing underwater world including many kinds of sharks. Take a ride in a glass bottom boat and get up close and personal with a variety of underwater life. You can even take a dive with experienced trainers who will take you face-to-face with the sea life at the aquarium.
CENTRALWORLD
CentralWorld is one of Bangkok’s largest and most popular malls. It is the ninth-largest shopping complex in the world and it is home to a wide variety of shops, from luxury brands to local boutiques, as well as a wide variety of restaurants and cafes. It is conveniently located near to Chit Lom BTS station. One of its flagship stores is Apple’s second and largest Thailand store. Located at CentralWorld Square, right outside the Central Department Store, it’s the largest Apple Store in South East Asia and boasts a fantastic, modern design. Also noteworthy is the Tops Food Hall. This premium-level supermarket offers household products, fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, butcheries, and seafood. There is also a wine cellar, a food court, and a variety of restaurants and fast food outlets.
MBK CENTER
MBK Center, also known as Mahboonkrong, is one of Bangkok’s most popular malls with locals, ex-pats, and tourists. It first opened its doors back in 1985, and it’s gradually begun to shake off some of its reputation as being the headquarters of ‘knockoff’ goods, with its over 2,000 shops and stalls, the size is enormous. While its neighbors Siam Discovery, Siam Center, Siam Paragon, and CentralWorld target the upper market, MBK has always kept the budget-conscious clientele in mind and feels rather like an indoor market.
To get to MBK you can take the BTS Skytrain on the Silom line to its terminal station of National Stadium or you can take the Sukhumvit line and change at Siam station for the one-station final journey. You can also check out the BACC art gallery which lies opposite MBK, there are always some fantastic local and international exhibitions on show.
TERMINAL 21 ASOKE
Terminal 21 shopping center is conveniently located at Asoke BTS and Sukhumvit MRT interchange station. It’s name Terminal 21 comes from being located off Sukhumvit 21 Road and having the concept of an airport. It’s this airport theme that really catches the eye and makes this mall a little bit different from all of the others.
Each floor has a different country theme as if it were an international airport departure lounge. The designers of T21 have run wild with the concept and you can be sat on one of the many levels including the 5th-floor food court, and just enjoy the sculptures and artwork on show. It’s also a little less luxurious than the likes of Siam Paragon and CentralWorld, so it has many boutique-style shops that sell more interesting things.
ICONSIAM
ICONSIAM opened its doors on November 9th, 2018, and it was proudly the largest shopping center in Bangkok. Furthermore, we believe ICONSIAM is the most luxurious shopping center in Thailand by far. The company behind the mall’s development was the Thai company behind Siam Paragaon, Siam Piwat. Together with Japanese powerhouse mall company Siam Takashimaya, they set about making the most luxurious mall in Thailand.
One of the biggest draws of ICONSIAM is its prime location on the mighty Chao Praya river. If you go up to the floor above the Apple Store, where there’s a HOBS (House of Beer) and a Falabella restaurant, you can see one of the most fantastic river views of Bangkok, where you can enjoy a lovely meal and drinks.
